Product Review: How Legacy Home Improvements Uses Zuri PVC Decking To Give Their Customers a Low-Maintenance, Worry-Free Solution.

By: Zach Stein

When it comes to low maintenance decking solutions, there is none better than Zuri PVC Decking. Zuri is made by Royal Building Products, one of the world's largest home improvement vendors. In this post, I'm going to share why we believe Zuri is the best product on the market today.

When it comes to composite or PVC decking, there are two main factors to consider: the looks, and the quality of materials. There are hundreds of products on the market today, but when it comes to quality, nothing compares to Zuri PVC Decking. Let's start with the looks:

The Looks: Natural vs Plastic

When composite decking first arrived in the marketplace, the aesthetic options were quite limited. To get a natural looking deck, a customer had to use a natural product (AKA Cedar or Pine). If a customer didn't want the maintenance of wood, they then had a slim set of composite materials with a cheap, fake looking wood grain stamped onto its surface as shown below.

The problems with this fake wood grain were plentiful. It collected dirt and debris, causing mold. It scratched easily. It cracked and warped. So, most people stayed away from this "low maintenance" product until a newer and better product arrived.

Just as everything else over the last 20 years, the technology in low maintenance decking has evolved substantially, allowing a customer almost endless possibilities and combinations for their deck project. Of all the combinations on the market, Zuri does the best at providing the benefits of a long-lasting PVC board, while best mimicking the certain species of decking it's designed around. As you can see below, the wood grain of Zuri looks completely natural.

The reason Zuri looks natural is because it's made by fusing 3D printed images of real wood onto a PVC deck board. Royal uses hundreds of finishes to give you a true, natural look on your deck. Royal's patented Trivance technology ensures the natural wood look won't fade, discolor, rot, or warp, so your deck will look like new for years to come.

The Material: PVC vs Composite Decking

Many homeowners we speak with use "composite decking" as a blanket term for all low maintenance products. However, there are multiple variations of low maintenance decking including wood-based composites, mineral-based composites, PVCs, and PVC blends.

Most companies like Trex, AZEK, and other popular composite companies manufacture a wood-based composite. This type of composite has a very high expansion and contraction rate, causing the decking products to warp or break down over time. It also is more prone to stains, fading, cracking, and mold as shown in this photo:

PVC decking has no organic material in its makeup, therefore is resilient to mold, mildew, expansion and contraction. Zuri is known to have one of the lowest expansion and contraction rates on the market, which means your deck will always look the way it did on the day it was installed.

PVC decking also has a lower heat absorption rate than composites, so you, your kids, and your pets can enjoy the summer days without burning the bottom of your feet. If safety is a concern, Zuri also wins on slip resistance. On rainy days, you can rely on Zuri's patented Trivance technology to reduce the risk of slipping and falling. Compared to other composite or PVC products, Zuri is the most slip resistant product available.

Conclusion

There are a lot of good products on the composite decking market, but when it comes to a lifelong product, PVC decking is the way to go. Out of the PVC decking options, there's none better than Zuri Premium Decking. The only downside to this product is the cost, which can be 20%-30% more expensive than other similar products. However, because of it's qualities, I believe Zuri is more than worth the cost. When you pair Zuri with a professional installation team, you get a deck that'll last a lifetime.
